Romans

Study of the Roman Republic to Empire to "The Fall". Be sure to have read and taken notes on pages 211 - 229 and 246 - 252. Following today's test, create an annotated time line of the events that led the Roman Republic to become the Roman Empire.
Use the following events... Describe the event, explain its importance to Rome AT THE TIME, and how it affected Rome's future.
1. Defeat of the Etruscans
2. Establishment of the Roman forum.
3. Creation of the Republic...including consuls and Senate.
4. Twelve Tables
 5. Election of Tribunes
6. Control of Italian peninsula.
7. Punic Wars
 8. Land distribution disputes (latifundia)
9. Gracchi Brothers
10. Civil War...Lucius Sulla
 11. First Triumvirate
12. Caesar as dictator
13. Caesar's assassination
14. Second Triumvirate
15. Octavius/Augustus

Due to time restraints we will do the above assignment as a class. We will then look at the growth and prosperity of the Roman Empire as well as the social and cultural aspects.

On Monday we will work on answering the question: "What caused the fall of the Roman Empire?"
