New Imperialism

This week we look at European expansion in the form of New Imperialism.  With a growth of wealth from industry and a surge of nationalism, European countries began to partition Africa and gain political or economic control over weaker nations in Asia.  Use the following powerpoint to take notes and complete map assignments for this unit.

Democratic and Social Reforms

The Industrial Revolution is in full swing and the democratic nations of Europe as well as the United States are growing.  As with any growth, changes begin to occur.  People demand more say in the politics of their country.  A feeling of Nationalism begins to develop and some demands are the result of this movement.  Many demands come from the people that had not been able to benefit from growth and wealth.

For the past several months we have studied the history of Europe and the states of Germany and Italy played an important role.  however, the states themselves were never truly united into one nation.  This unit will unite the states and create the countries of Germany and Italy.
