DBQ Assignment for Imperialism

The following assignment should be completed by April 28.

DBQ:  Analyze the effects of building global empires from 1860 to 1920.  Analyze the effects on the colonized as well as the colonial powers.

Consider the justifications for Imperialism:  Economic Motives, Political Motives, Cultural Motives

Consider the effects of European imperialism in India, Central and SE Asia, the Pacific, and Africa.

Use information in chapters 31 and 32.

Analyze document on page 744.

1.        Create a chart to sort factual information.

2.       Locate and read document.   Record the author’s main point or idea.

3.       Reread document to determine how the document answers the question.

4.       Match the document with facts collected…(#1)

5.       Determine the credibility of the document.  Author, audience, purpose, significance

6.       Written Analysis for the document

a.       Speak through the author and/or title of the document and explain what the document tells you about the answer to the question.

b.      Include any evidence (facts) that support your ideas; and

c.       Include your judgment of the source’s credibility or weight as evidence if you believe it affects the analysis of the document.

7.       Write a thesis statement for the question.

Repeat the above assignment analyzing the poem “White Man’s Burden” on page 735.
