Absolutism in Europe

January 23 - 29
We will discuss the growing power of the monarchs in Europe.  It is important to understand the concept of "absolutism" as it applies to the monarchs of Europe.  We will also examine the events in Great Britain and the development of a constitutional monarchy.  Why was England different?  How did the other monarchs use their power?  How did this affect the "balance of power" in Europe?  Will the rise of absolutism have consequences?
