The following lesson is based on Chapters 20, 21, and 22.
How did the changes in Europe result in transoceanic connections and global expansion?
Both of these videos deal with trade and expansion. The first shows interest in the trade around the Indian Ocean. This interest became important in Europe (especially with the growing power of Venice and the riches of the Mediterranean Trade) and that led European Monarchs to seek alternate routes to trade with India and the East.
Assignment:
Research the trade routes and trading posts in Africa and Asia.
Be very careful where you go for information...Remember what we have learned about sourcing and reliability.
Chart the countries, explorers, and areas explored.
Dutch, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese explorations should be listed.
Choose one of the countries and explain further. Where did they travel? Why? What were the effects of their exploration on the lands they explored? (both good and bad) How did the exploration benefit or hurt the Europeans? What events in Europe made these explorations possible?
Final analysis: What do you predict will be the long term effects of exploration and expansion on Europe and the other continents? On what do you base your predictions? (You cannot base your predictions on future events...only the past)
